Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) enables applicants who have the skills and experience required in Alberta to receive an Alberta Provincial Nomination Certificate which helps expedite the overall immigration process to Canada. Alberta PNP supports the economic growth of the region by attracting skilled and semi-skilled workers to the province.
The Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs) including Alberta PNP enable Provincial and Territorial governments in Canada to attract immigrants to their region.
To Apply Through Alberta PNP
- Apply and complete the provincial nomination process.
- Demonstrate the skill set and ability to contribute to the economy of Alberta
- Receive a Provincial Nomination Certificate from Alberta
After Receiving Nomination
- Send an application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for Permanent Residence. Individuals nominated by the Government of Alberta through Alberta PNP, along with their spouse/common-law partner and dependent children, can apply as a provincial nominee.
- An IRCC officer will assess your application based on the Canadian Immigration requirements. These applications will not be assessed based on the six selection factors of the Federal Skilled Workers Program. The final decisions of these applications are taken by IRCC.
Note: Alberta PNP provides options for both skilled and semi-skilled workers. You can apply either on your own or through your employer.
General Requirements
All applicants must meet the following requirements
Medical Examination
Complete and pass a medical examination.
Sufficient Funds
Demonstrate sufficient funds to support yourself and your dependents after arriving in Canada
Security Clearance
Have security clearance.
No Employer Support Required
Strategic Recruitment Stream
Applicants applying through this stream of Alberta PNP can do so without employer support. The Strategic Recruitment Stream has multiple categories designed for different professional backgrounds.

The Strategic Recruitment Stream of Alberta PNP has three categories:
Compulsory and Optional Trades Category is for tradespersons who:
- Hold either an Alberta Qualification Certificate or a Recognized Trade Certificate
- Are residing in Alberta on a valid work permit at the time of application
- Who work in a compulsory or optional trade
Engineering Occupations Category is for engineers, designers and drafters who:
- Have work experience in Alberta.
- Are working in one of the designated occupations.
Post Graduate Worker Category is for individuals who:
- Have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Alberta.
- Who are currently working in Alberta in an eligible occupation on a Post-Graduation Work Permit.
Employer Nomination Required
Employer Driven Stream
Employers can nominate applicants applying through this stream of Alberta PNP. The Employer Driven Stream of Alberta PNP has three categories:
Skilled Worker Category
For individuals with a permanent, full time job offer in an eligible skilled occupation.
Note: Individuals are not required to be working in Alberta at the time of application.
International Graduate Category
For individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Graduated from a recognized post secondary institution in Canada
- Hold a valid Post Graduation Work Permit
- Received a permanent, full time job offer from an Alberta employer
Semi-Skilled Worker Category
The Semi Skilled Worker Category of the Employer Driven Stream under Alberta PNP is for temporary foreign workers who have received a permanent, full time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible semi skilled occupation.
For Agricultural Entrepreneurs
Self-Employed Farmer Stream
The Self Employed Farmer Stream of Alberta PNP is for individuals who meet specific farming and investment criteria to establish or continue farming operations in Alberta.
- Have farming experience.
- Have personal funds to purchase and develop a farm in Alberta.
- Own or operate a farm.
- Plan to live in Alberta in order to purchase and manage their farming business.
Ineligible Candidates
Some candidates are not eligible to apply for Alberta PNP. Please review the following categories carefully before applying.
- Clergy, Elementary and Secondary School Teachers, Professional Athletes and Dental Laboratory Bench Workers
- Refugee claimants, or individuals involved in a federal appeal or removal process. It is not the mandate of the Alberta PNP to intervene in the federal refugee claim, appeal or removal process.
- Live-in Caregivers currently living in Canada
- Temporary Foreign Workers working and residing in a province other than Alberta
- International students studying in Canada, including students doing co-op work placements or internships as part of their study program.
